Apple Watch still uses an iPhone for its Apple pairing. Wristvia adds a separate app link to Android for selected features, with limited physical testing and no public release yet.
Keep the existing iPhone pairing
Apple’s setup process pairs the watch through an iPhone. Wristvia does not replace that pairing or the iPhone Watch app. Retain access to the paired iPhone for setup and maintenance.
Do not erase or unpair a working watch to try Wristvia. Family Setup and other pairing configurations have not been qualified by this project.
Device requirements and tested scope
| Android | Current build minimum: Android 13, with Bluetooth Low Energy. Health Connect writing in this implementation requires Android 14 or later. |
|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Current watch project minimum: watchOS 10. Physical testing uses one Series 11; older watches are not qualified. |
| iPhone | Keep the iPhone already paired with your watch. Check Apple’s requirements for your exact model and OS. |
| Physical test coverage | One Honor Android phone and one Series 11 with the existing iPhone pairing retained. Always On is off. |
| Distribution | Development installs only. No public Play Store, App Store or TestFlight download is offered here. |
Current feature boundaries
| Notifications | Selected alerts, inbox previews and synthetic source icons have been observed. Sustained unattended delivery remains open. |
|---|---|
| Music | Track display and controls have physical observations; the latest track/Stop result does not identify its exact route. Media guide. |
| Health | Watch data reached Health Connect and was reported visible in Google Fit. One direct Bluetooth health transfer and write was verified on 2 November. Not every type, receiving app or later build is qualified. Health guide. |
| Alarms | Repeating wrist alerts and the arm reminder were observed. Require the exact time to say Armed; final phone Stop dismissal needs a clean retest. Alarm guide. |
| Replies and calls | Notification reply controls are implemented, but ordinary message sending has not been physically verified. Android call audio through the watch is not established. |
| Finding devices | Find phone produced an audible ring in an earlier test. Find watch now leads to Apple Find Devices; the revised Play Sound flow is not physically verified. |
Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular
Nearby notifications, Media and Find phone have Bluetooth paths. Phone battery and alarm status also use a nearby encrypted path in the latest builds. General notification replies, Wi-Fi credential sharing and Wristvia’s quick Find watch alert currently need approved Internet Backup. Health sync now also has a nearby Bluetooth path with separate Health consent.
Apple’s guidance for using the watch without its iPhone nearby describes Apple features and connectivity. Cellular service does not make Android the watch’s paired phone. Enabling backup does not prove both devices are online.
Before changing your everyday phone
List the features you depend on and check each one on your devices. Prototype successes do not establish broad compatibility or dependable all-day delivery. Start with the switching checklist and dated test report.
Does the iPhone need to stay nearby or powered on?
Keep the paired iPhone for setup and maintenance. Apple documents that some watch features work over Wi-Fi or cellular when the iPhone is off or out of range; the conditions differ by feature. Wristvia’s nearby Bluetooth path exchanges data between Android and the watch, but a complete iPhone-powered-off daily-use qualification has not been recorded.
A GPS watch can use Wi-Fi where available; a cellular model can add its own network connection when configured with a supported plan. Neither option changes the Apple pairing requirement or proves Wristvia reliability. See Apple’s away-from-iPhone guidance and the connectivity FAQ.
